Some of the problems that our orthodontists are capable of fixing include:

Underbite

An underbite is a malocclusion that is defined by the lower jaw sticking out farther than the upper jaw. This malocclusion will cause the lower front teeth to sit in front of the upper front teeth.

Crossbite

A crossbite occurs when the upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth. This tooth condition can cause tooth stratification, misaligned jaw growth, and sometimes even facial asymmetry.

Upper Front Teeth Protrusion

This type of bite is defined by the upper teeth that extend too far forward or the lower teeth that don’t extend far enough. This malocclusion can affect the appearance and function of your teeth.

Overbite

An overbite occurs when the upper front teeth extend too far out in front of the lower front teeth. This can cause the lower front teeth to bite into the roof of the mouth along with the possibility of an assortment of other problems, including a gummy smile, protruding lips, and excessive incisor wear.

Crowding

Crowding is when teeth have insufficient room to erupt from the gums and it’s also the most common reason for why patients wear braces. Crowding has been linked to periodontal problems and dental decay because it’s harder to clean the overlapping surfaces of the teeth. Charlottesville Orthodontics offers a variety of different types of braces to treat this problem.

Spacing

As the opposite of crowding, spacing is characterized by too much open space between teeth. This can be caused by missing teeth, excessive jaw room for the size of the erupting teeth, or it can just be a minor cosmetic issue.

Openbite

An openbite is occurs when the upper and lower front teeth don’t overlap. An openbite will impact proper chewing and can also cause a number of bad habits, including thumb sucking and tongue thrusting.

Dental Midlines not Matched

Unmatched dental midlines are evident when the back bite doesn’t fit and match appropriately. This type of problem can negatively impact proper jaw and dental function.
